2nd year med student here (can't imagine who else would want this, lol) and I love this book. Robbins is our class text for pathology, and I hate reading, so I do these questions after watching lecture (and pathoma) and it works awesome. Some of these questions are essentially identical to questions from my exams! Really glad I decided to buy this one.
I used this with Goljan audio (caveat, some mcc items are updated in book conflict with the old audio so pay attn of course). This year's Step 1 seemed clinicals heavy & this helped tremendously. There are tons of side bar notes & color pics to quickly review pre-exam (4 th ed). Material is succinct yet integrative e.g. HY micro, physio, Pharm etc.
First year medical student here, I bought this and have been using it for our systems-based curriculum. This book is organized by body system. The questions are great practice for our shelf exams!! I've had several questions on exams that very closely resembled questions in the book. All questions are very tricky, but great practice. The answer explanations are very helpful for understanding. Overall, I recommend for system-based exams.
These questions are CHALLENGING and the elements of them frequently appear on the path portions of my exams. When doing them, just don't be discouraged if your soul feels a bit crushed after going through the set.
I have found this review book to be extremely helpful while studying for Path. Because it is made specifically to correspond with Robbins, the chapters in the review book correspond well to topics in either Big or Little Robbins, and - even better - each question's answer explanation includes reference pages for both texts (in their 8th edition) which is super helpful if you want to look something up.The answer explanations are thorough, but I do think they could be organized slightly better - I just wish they would start a new line for each answer choice, even though it takes up more room that way. It would just be simpler to look at. However, it's not a major issue and I'm glad that they do have explanations.Sometimes the questions seem to ask about the same concept over and over again, but I take it to mean that those concepts are especially high yield and important. And it's inevitable to have a bit of redundancy when you do multiple questions on a constrained topic. For exam review, this can even be helpful to drill in ideas.Overall, I love resources that give me reliable questions and answers to practice on, and this book is great for that. It helps me do more active learning than just reading and I find it clear and easy to use. Would definitely recommend for medical students or anyone else wanting to learn pathology!
I'm studying veterinary anatomic pathology, and a good portion of our Phase I boards are derived from the first few chapters of Robbins and Cotran. I was hoping for a book that would quiz me on the fundamental principles of pathology to help me review my understanding of the core material covered in each chapter. This book is more clinically oriented; the vast majority of the multiple-choice questions are framed in the context of clinical cases. This is probably very helpful for my colleagues studying human medicine, but it was less helpful for me. =)
Challenging questions. Better than a lot of qBanks, and definitely the best question book out there for step 1 pathology.
They should rename this book, "Vignette Mastery". Do every question you possibly can and walk away with a wealth of knowledge that lectures and reference texts could never achieve.
