A must have! Each day pairs side by side with the Bible and companion. Usually only a page long so a quick brief reading to answer questions or give you back information without overwhelming you. I’m a mama to 3 kids ages 4 and under and am able to read both the daily bible and companion between 15-30 minutes keeping in mind I’m a very slow reader and will reread to process better and I take notes! So I would be on the longer side! I just think you can’t have the Bible without the companion-it makes you think differently and really clears a lot up! At the beginning it also has all the books of the Bible and short summaries of who the author was and where it took place it’s importantance etc! Can’t wait for today’s read! For the first time ever I’m not so overwhelmed or discouraged with how much to read. Or it being to hard to get into-understanding-old Testament has been a struggle for me in the past and I had found myself just reading it to say I had but this bible and companion makes you really understand and want to keep coming back to read more. It’s the perfect amount of reading everyday to let you read it and have time to think about it and let it sink in! Also I would recommend the large print bible! I almost missed that option!
I have been reading the One Year Bible NLT and have loved the layout for each day, it is easy to read. I thought the companion would be a good book to add on to my reading, though it didn't have as much information as I thought it would. There is a question and answer section that only asks one question for each chapter in each daily reading. I feel like I would have liked to see more question and answers. However, they are still good questions that I find interesting and I like how there is an introduction of each chapter, giving you an overview of what the chapter is about. Although I enjoy a little extra reading, this is a simple book, so if you are looking for in depth study companion it may not be what you're looking for.
I thought it would expand and/or clarify what I was reading that day in the one year chronological Bible. It did not do that. It was a devotional which had nothing to do with that day's reading.
I have been using the NLT One Year Bible for several years for daily Bible reading. I keep going back to it because of the ease in reading the fifteen minute daily readings from four sections of the Bible. This is my first time to try out the companion book, and I really like the questions and answers approach. It is a good way to expand on my knowledge of different approaches toward what I read. I purchased the Bible and this Companion book for the Kindle to use this year for the ease in carrying them anywhere. This is the most convenient way I have ever found to do my daily study. This book may be too basic for those who have done in depth study such as what one might get through seminary, but for Christians with a need of more thorough understanding of their reading, this book is the answer. I highly recommend it!
I read the One Year Bible this year and read this book along with it. This is the 2nd time I have read a yearly bible and I'm very glad I used this companion guide this time. It really gave great insight and better understanding to the daily readings.
Just a series of questions accompanied by answers that are not the most interesting...they are usually pretty obvious and therefore unnecessary.
I'd highly recommend buying "The One Year Bible Companion". The subtitle is "Questions and answers to help you make the most of your daily Bible reading". There are 4 questions and answers per daily reading. Also, the Companion lists the passages to be read for the day at the top, so you could read in this order but with your own Bible, if you don't own "The One Year Bible". The questions help illuminate some of the sometimes confusing OT passages. The Companion also has brief introductions for all the books of the Bible.A bonus about "The One Year Bible Companion" - the cover is a very durable plastic-like cover. It's very durable and flexible. Just another added feature. And of course, it's available from Amazon! That's where I got mine! :-)This method of Bible Study is great - this is my 2nd time through it. The first time, I got the reading schedule from Brio magazine and this time I'm using "The One Year Bible - New Living Translation". There are other translations available as well.Happy Bible Study, everyone!
Excellent source for explanation or background information about daily biblical readings. Not all of the daily readings are addressed, just the highlights. In order to use this book, you need to have the One Year Bible. I like this book because it doesn't go into as much detail as a full commentary, but gives enough info to better understand daily readings.
