About the Author
Blair and Dawn Witherington are professional naturalists. Blair is a research scientist with the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute in Florida. He has his bachelor's and master's degrees in biology from the University of Central Florida and a doctorate in zoology from the University of Florida. He has contributed numerous scientific articles and book chapters on sea turtle biology, and his books include two volumes on sea turtles and their conservation. Dawn is a graphic design artist and scientific illustrator trained at the Art Institutes of Colorado and Fort Lauderdale. Her art and design are prominent in natural history books, posters, and museum exhibits. I've browsed so many shell books and websites on Florida-but this one is absolutely perfect. It is well written and perfectly organized! Great work, Witheringtons!
My wife and I really enjoy the beaches of Florida, and while I concentrate more on the fishing aspect, my wife is a rabid sheller. She has the first edition of this book, but was excited to find out there was a second edition. This is a high quality book, filled with pictures and identification guides. It's well worth having for even the casual beachgoer. Highly recommend!
I like that this booklet is packed with info, decent pix, and is perfectly sized for taking along on a beach adventure. Author is knowledgeable about nomenclature system, but relates well for those of us who just want a summary of ID, lifecycle and ecosystem niche of the shells representing animals found. Awesome that he and wife found a way to map out areas of FL coastline to find each species. Great book.
This is a very easy to use and comprehensive book about the shells I find right uere on our Florida beaches! I bought one for my great nephew age 6. He is entralled with shells and is learnin all the names!

This is the best seashell book that I've found yet. pictures are clear and descriptions precise. Like the graphs that tell where each variety of shell is usually found. Liked the extra info about the life of various sea shell types,
Love the fact that it's just FL shells and the simplicity of knowing where in FL you find what kind of shells. All shiny good quality color pictures of the shells with great explanations of each type..
