I really love Brittany and her teaching style. I loved this book, I've taken a few lettering courses so I am not a "beginner" per se, but my lack of practice is keeping me from advancing, the lettering prompts at the end of the book are the reason she sold me on the book. A lot of info was still useful to me and I like that she has a few project pieces to try, including galaxy lettering. This is a great book for beginners and intermediates, or if you like to hoard, I mean collect, lettering books from great artists.
This book is a fab addition to my personal "lettering library" book collection! While it's perfect for beginners, it's also a great resource for more advanced letterers due to the section on styles and techniques (tie dye lettering, plaid lettering, mermaid lettering, etc), plus sections on plenty of embellishments to add character to your lettering. I can't wait to try so many things in this book out!
big book, white thick paper, useful tips and information, many sets of fonts to practice and pratice sheets, there are samples of quotes too. at the end of the books there are “homework†sheets where they give you thr topic and you create it yourself after learning all the techniques from the book. very details and easy to follow. there are watercolor hand lettering pratice as well. Great book, and cheaper price than in the bookstore.
This book is a must have for any hand letterer no matter where you are in your journey! Brittany does a fantastic job teaching you things like the basics of lettering, lettering styles and techniques, and even how to digitize your lettering! Her writing is so detailed and well written I feel like she is right there in the room with me! I love her Start to Finish Art Prints section where she teaches you different lettering projects. But what really makes this book stand out from others is her Inspiration for the Journey section. Here Brittany dedicates this section to help and encourage you. With her 100 daily prompts, she gives guidance to explore what is on the inside of you, and to use that to help you in your lettering. Her prompts are thought out so well and are really meaningful. She has sweet little notes of encouragement to letter that leave you feeling inspired. You'll feel like Brittany is your cheerleader while you letter! I can't say enough how much I LOVE this book!!!!
I really like how this book goes over all the basics you need to know when starting out with hand lettering. But it doesn't just go over the letters themselves (which it does very well though), it also has information about what kind of supplies you need (and the pros and cons of different types of brush pens and such), tips and tricks for troubleshooting errors, etc. There are also little tutorials for doodles/embellishments, how to arrange words in a word-art drawing so they look right, several different alphabets with practice pages, and inspiration ideas for making your own word art. There aren't a lot of practice pages (just one set of each alphabet) but those are easy to find online or to make copies for practice so not a huge problem. As a newbie who found this book very helpful, I definitely recommend!
Excellent book! This book is perfect for lettering beginners and also for those who are more advanced in their journey. It covers lettering basics, recommended and most used supplies. This book covers a lot of different brush lettering techniques, composition, and even digitizing! It also has some fun projects to make. It's seriously an amazing book full of lettering goodness!
