Love this book hopefully it will help me land a great Federal position. I was doing a lot wrong with my resume submissions. Went from not qualified not referred to at least qualified but not ranked high enough. But I'm still working on tweaking it to actually get an interview. Way better pricing than the bookstore.
It helps. But honestly. Just go to a workshop. Lots of erroneous material. But it is thorough. With an ever changing resume format procedure I would recommend bypassing this item and sign up for a class from a reputable institution. If you have money to spare pick this up.
As others have noted, the newest edition (6), is current but the 5th had far more information. I've used ideas from both to teach resume creation and interviewing to Federal employees, and I found that I benefited from having both editions.

Very good book. I decided to purchase my own copy after borrowing this from the library. Looking for and applying for federal jobs is a lot different than doing so in the private sector. This has a lot of very good information.

This book strips back the mystery of the federal hiring process and should be on every federal civil servant's bookshelf.Take back the reins on your federal career. Why write a long review when I can sum it up in one sentence….If you apply to federal jobs before reading this book, you are either completely wasting your time or drastically reducing your chance of being selected for an interview. I spent months applying to federal jobs and want to kick myself for not reading this book first. Based on my private sector experience, I thought I was doing a good job, but now I will go about the process entirely differently.
